However it is 2019 and consuming animal products and the consequences of animal agriculture is conclusively detrimental to our health. Where domesticated live stock, such as cow and pigs, once made it easier for families to survive droughts and starvation, it is now doing the complete opposite.

1.Processed and red meats are classified as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization
So what is considered red meat? Red meat is any muscle meat from a mammal. This includes beef, veal, pork, lamb, mutton, horse, and goat.
Now what is considered processed meat? Meat is processed in many ways to increase preservation time for maximum profit.
This decreases flavor so other forms of processing is included to increase flavor. Forms of processing include but are not limited to: salting, curing, fermentation, and smoking.
“The strongest, but still limited, evidence for an association with eating red meat is for colorectal cancer. There is also evidence of links with pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer.” WHO
“The IARC Working Group concluded that eating processed meat causes colorectal cancer. An association with stomach cancer was also seen.” WHO

2. Eating a diet high in plants has optimal health benefits
Studies have proven that people who consumed a plant based diet have a lower risk of heart disease. Furthermore they had more energy and a better physical condition.
Whole Foods are minimally processed natural foods that grow from the earth. Furthermore plant proteins are also high in fiber unlike meat proteins.
Among all the preventable health issues associated with our diets, obesity is one of the main factors. It’s nearly impossible to maintain an obese body mass on a whole food plant based diet.
A plant based diet lowers your risk and reduces symptoms of certain chronic diseases. Diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Furthermore is reduces the risk of many cancers such as colorectal and gastrointestinal.
Another health benefit a plant based diet is delayed cognitive decline. Studies have shown eating mostly plants may help slow or prevent cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
The bottom line is that plant based foods are high in nutritional value and low in sugars and saturated and trans fats. They grow from the earth and are naturally healthy for the body. Does being vegan help the planet? Yes and your body.
Animal agriculture affects the environment to such a degree that it is indeed contributing to climate change. More so than any other one factor. Factory farming livestock and poultry affects the air, water, and land. Animal feces (manure) is a huge cause for concern.
Recently it was estimated in the US that we produce 120 million metric tons of manure in dry weight. Animal Agriculture contributes 11% to global greenhouse gasemissions with ruminants adding methane.
Among the gases from livestock and poultry that are potential problems are the following: carbon dioxide, ammonia, total reduced sulfur including hydrogen sulfide.
It is due to the fact that these animals are so densely packed in these huge industrial factory farms that the amount of manure is out of control. The land simply cannot absorb that amount of animal waste.
Furthermore the feces contaminates the land, ground water, and nearby rivers. Animal excrement has contaminated over 1/3 of our rivers. Thus Poisoning the water life.
4. In land Water Usage and Contamination
Approximately 70% of the world is water however only a small percentage is actually drinkable. About 2.5% to be exact. Helping to reduce meat consumption is part of how being vegan helps the environment.
Billions of people aren’t fortunate enough to have plentiful access to drinkable water. In fact an estimated three in 10 people worldwide—2.1 billion—lack access to safe drinking water. Furthermore our drinkable water sources are being depleted at an alarming rate.
“According to data from the Pacific Institute and National Geographic, a single egg takes 53 gallons of water to produce, a pound of chicken 468 gallons, a gallon of cow’s milk 880 gallons, and a pound of beef 1,800 gallons.”
“Growing crops to feed animals killed for food consumes 56 percent of water in the U.S.”
“Animal agriculture is responsible for 20 to 33 percent of all fresh water consumption in the world.”
“One hamburger requires 660 gallons of water to produce—the equivalent of two months’ worth of showers.”
Deforestation is the intentional removal of trees and plant life especially in areas densely populated by trees. These lands are over 90% cleared for the purpose of growing grain to feed the livestock used for food.
There is no such thing as sustainable meat. Deforestation is rapidly causes loss of species known and unknown.
1-2 acres of rainforest land is cleared ever second to accommodate the expansion of animal agriculture. The quantity of livestock and the grain needed to feed them is constantly expanding.

91% of all deforestation is due to the ever increasing need for livestock accommodations.
We absolutely need the Amazon Rainforest the most as well as the rest of plant life. The Amazon Rainforest is referred to the lungs of the earth. It’s responsible for absorbing carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and producing oxygen, upon which all living beings depend for survival.
6. Marine life and ocean destruction
We need the ocean to absorb about 2/3 of carbon admissions in the atmosphere. The more carbons it has to absorb the more acidic the ocean is becoming. Oceans produce over half of the world’s oxygen and absorbs 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere.
I actually love eating fish. And would if it was sustainable and not contributing to the destruction of marine life. However fishing has become so destructive to our oceans I just can not in good conscience contribute to it in any way.
We are over fishing to the point that the marine life can not reproduce what has been taken. Many types of fishing has massive casualties other than just the intended fish.
Sea floors and habitats are destroyed, unintended wildlife is caught in nets and discarded.
What is bottom trawling?
“Bottom trawling is an industrial fishing method where a large net with heavy weights is dragged across the seafloor, scooping up everything in its path – from the targeted fish to incidentally caught, centuries-old corals. Bottom trawls are used in catching marine life that live on the seafloor, such as shrimp, cod, rockfish, sole and flounder. Bottom trawls are also commonly used to fish seamount species such as orange roughy on the high seas.”
In conclusion unless we largely reduce animal agriculture our bodies and planet are hugely at risk.
