Tempeh is a soy product that is less processed than tofu. This soy product originates from Indonesia. It is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form. Tempeh makes amazing vegan mexican food recipes.

The texture of tempeh is great for meat substitution. Tofu is soft and silky and tempeh is tough and chunky. It’s a great ingredient for any vegan meal recipe. Tempeh is a plant based food that is high in protein.

One half cup of tempeh has 160 calories, 9 grams of fat, 342 mg potassium, 8 grams of carbohydrates, 15.5 grams of protein, 9% calcium, 12.5% iron, 10% Vitamin B6, and 16.5% magnesium. Taco shells should be vegan safe with most brands. Just check the ingredients.

  1. Taco Seasoning Spices:
  2. 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  3. 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  4. 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  5. 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
  6. 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  7. 1 tsp. ground cumin
  8. 1 tsp. sea salt
  9. 1 tsp. black pepper

I prefer Daiya Brand cheese for these tempeh tacos. Daiya cheese is amazing in vegan mexican food recipes.

I used orange cheddar flavor to best create the authentic taco taste. This plant cheese looks and tastes just like the real thing.

1/4 cup shredded Daiya cheese there are 80 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, 7 grams of total carbs, 1 gram of protein, and 10% calcium.

  11. Crumble your tempeh into the olive oil and onion
  12. Combine your taco spices/seasoning
  13. Fry until crispy
  14. Remove heat
  15. Scoop into taco shells
  16. Top with avocado, lettuce, and vegan cheese

  • 1 8 oz brick tempeh
  • 1/4 cup onions chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 10 taco shells
  • 1 avocado slices
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 cup vegan cheese shredded


  1. In a medium frying pan fry up 1/4 cup chopped onion in olive oil

  2. Once onions start to brown Crumble your tempeh into the pan

  3. Combine your taco spices/seasoning and Fry until crispy and Remove heat

  4. Scoop into taco shells and Top with avocado, lettuce, and vegan cheese

My husband and kids love easy tempeh tacos. In fact they love all my vegan mexican food recipes. They’re delicious and easy to make. Vegan food is great for your health and helps the environment.

Other condiments that taste delicious on easy vegan tacos include spicy vegan mayo. It’s easy to make spicy vegan mayo. Just combine about 1/4 cup of your favorite vegan mayo with 2 or 3 tbsp of your favorite hot sauce in a medium mixing bowl.

Then whisk the two sauces together vigorously until they are thoroughly combined. Bam you have an amazing vegan sauce to top on tacos, nachos, burritos, etc!
