Manually break up the candy canes with your hands first to make them easier to process
Use a food processor or coffee grinder to blend up the candy canes into flakes and powder
Combine vegetable shortening and smuckers marshmallow topping in a large mixing bowl and beat with electric mixer until thoroughly combined
Add powdered sugar to the mixture one cup at a time. Beat in between to blend in the powdered sugar slowly.
Blend in powdered sugar until thoroughly combined
Add the candy cane powder to the buttercream mixture
Beat again with electric mixer until thoroughly combined
